There are many circumstances where you won’t need to hire legal representation, attending a small claims court is just one example. But, in some instances, you’ll need to hire a reputable lawyer to negotiate on your behalf, especially if your situation is particularly complex or serious. Here are 5 reasons why you may want to consider a lawyer rather than going alone.

  1. It is a specialist field > If you haven’t studied law, why would you consider yourself experienced enough to represent yourself in court? The subject of law is an extremely complicated area which is why lawyers study for years trying to gain knowledge of a specific field, it isn’t something you can master in a few months, it is a highly complex topic filled with a considerable amount of technical terminology. Even long standing, experienced lawyers don’t usually represent themselves in court.
  1. It could cost you money > You may be facing civil proceedings that could cost you a lot of money if you decide to represent yourself, if you make any sort of mistake when presenting your case, it could cost you dearly. Most lawyers also work on a no win no fee basis, so if you don’t come out with a successful verdict, they are entitled to nothing. You may think hiring a lawyer will cost you a lot of money, but most of the time the opposite is true. If you’re making a claim or facing a serious charge, it is advisable to hire an experienced lawyer to negotiate on your behalf.
  1. They know how to challenge evidence > Having an experienced lawyer fight your corner is vital for several reasons, one being that they know how to dispute findings and challenge evidence which is presented against you in court. It doesn’t matter whether if you’re dealing with superannuation lawyers, or criminal attorneys, if they are representing you during legal proceedings, they’ll know exactly how to contest key pieces of evidence which could easily affect the outcome of your case.
  1. They have connections > If you are involved in a case which requires the testimony of a professional witness, an experienced lawyer will know exactly who to call if they need to put someone on the stand to verify and add credit to a particular piece of evidence. If you don’t work as a legal representative, it is highly unlikely that you’ll have these types of contacts available to you.
  1. The opposing party has legal aid > Another good reason to hire a lawyer is simply because the other party or parties involved in the dispute have legal representation. It won’t end well if you try to face off against a trained, knowledgeable lawyer on your own.

There are many good reasons to hire legal representation when faced with a civil or criminal matter, the law is a complex, multifaceted subject which is very difficult to understand unless you’ve spent several years studying it. A top-notch lawyer can save you a lot of hassle by ensuring you receive the best outcome.
